Summary of Thailand Trip

Posted by Nell Rose Phillips on Thursday, March 31, 2011, In : Thailand

My trip to Thailand and the Island of Java at the invitation of the Dhammakaya Buddhists was very successful. I believe it has opened new doors for us and will lead to both a greater understanding between the Buddhist and Pagan communities and increased mutual respect. With that said, it is also important to note that I am not the only Pagan working with other religions and cultures to create partnerships. There are a number of individuals who have stepped up for this work, and I fully honor ...

Days 5 & 6 and return home

Day 5 at Borbordour: Today was a very special day for me. Throughout my trip I have been treated as an honored guest and a spiritual leader, but there has gradually been something else growing. As I share more of myself and my beliefs, there is a sense of higher purpose. Many powerful changes are taking place within me, spiritual changes that I can't easily share with friends. I ...

I awoke at 4:00 AM to monks preparing for ceremony. Today I am walking an initiation into the temple and I am really excited about it. After getting dressed and doing a short ritual of my own, I went outside into the dark, to meet Lama Ganchen and the other Lamas and monks and a entourage of Buddhists. We congregated in the dark, and when all were assembled, one monk started chanting. Soon, others joined in, and then we all started walking toward the temple. When we arrived at the base of the...

Return from Khou Y and on to Borbordour

Posted by Nell Rose Phillips on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, In : Thailand
Return from Khou Yi: I returned from Khou Yi back to the Dammakaya temple. One of our hosts arranged a wonderful dinner cruise down the river, through the city of Bangkok. After several hours of unbelievable traffic (some people in Bangkok actually build small rooms inside their vehicles to rest or change in). We arrived in the city. The boat was very elegant and the view of the city from the water was spectacular. There are temples all along the shore, and huge beautiful modern buildings tow...
